Person Centred Counselling for young people and adults in Edinburgh & Stirling

“We think we listen, but rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know”

                                                                                                               Carl Rogers

Get to Know Me

Since 2000, I’ve helped my clients break through the obstacles that seem to be holding them back in life. Life's too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. I am here to help my clients achieve a more positive outlook on life, and provide them with all the tools necessary to get them there. Let me help you learn and develop better ways to handle the issues that are standing in the way of your goals.

About Me

I am a qualified counsellor trained in the Person Centred Approach, encouraging and promoting a healthy, positive change in every day life through self exploration.

I will endeavour to provide a space where you feel comfortable to dive into your story, to lay it all out on the floor and together we can work to make sense of the difficult.

I work with adults and young people, short and long term, and my aim is that through our work together you will begin to understand yourself on a deeper level, accepting yourself along the way.

Just as I am passionate about helping people find their own potential I am committed to my own growth and development as a person and  counsellor and so continuously engage  in my own personal therapy and in training that will enhance my practice.

Whilst my original training is person centred, since qualifying I have undertaken various other training, particularly in working with men, working with trauma from early childhood, anxiety and working with attachment styles in relationships.

I will listen in a way that we don’t often experience from the people in our lives, listening with understanding, curiosity and empathy.

Listening with empathy has been described by Rogers as being willing to step into another’s reality, as they see it, without wanting to change or transform it.

I will listen carefully to the words you say, and also to the feelings that accompany them. I will be respectful and accepting of your experiences and hope to understand and get a true sense of your world.

It is my hope that you will experience me as real and genuine, being upfront and bringing my own personality into our work.

I offer an initial 20 minute phone conversation, giving you the opportunity to ask me any questions before committing to a session.

Thereafter, each session will last 50 minutes, costing £50 and will focus on what you feel is important for you.

The counselling will continue for as long as you feel you need it and you find it helpful.
